Meet Us

Leadership

God creates the church, and invites us to participate in the process. A congregation’s leaders are the stewards of that creation and hold it in trust. The parish has been given the resources needed to do the job God has called it to do. Leaders identify and allocate those resources, enabling the Church to carry out its mission. They also lead the congregation in celebrating and giving thanks for these resources.

Buck Mountain Church is an historic country church with approximately 150 parishioners and is supported financially, in part, from the Diocese of Virginia. As such our church is defined as a Mission Church and our clergy, correspondingly, is titled “Vicar”.

Our Vicar and vestry provide the formal leadership. The vestry brings a broad range of knowledge, skills, and experience. It is essential that a church utilize these resources in managing its finances, facilities and property, working with parishioners and the local community, planning for the future, communicating the word and serving the needs of all people.

The tradition of Senior Warden and Junior Warden dates back to 1604 and the Church of England. The Senior Warden is the member of the vestry who convenes and chairs vestry meetings in collaboration with the Vicar. The Junior Warden has the responsibility for the stewardship of the church’s facilities and property. Additionally, the financial aspects are managed by a Treasurer and Finance Committee.

Our Parish is most appreciative for the contributions of the following six lay parishioners that form our current vestry, shown below with our Vicar, The Reverend Connie Clark.

The Reverend Connie Clark, began her ministry at Buck Mountain March 2008. Connie was born in Alexandria, Virginia. She attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church as a child. In college at the University of Chicago she majored in Religious Studies. As an adult the Reverend Clark attended Grace Church in Alexandria and served as a Stephen Minister (lay pastoral caregiver), lector, lay Eucharistic minister, teacher, and spiritual director. In 1999 she became a half-time chaplain at the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute. In 2002 she and her husband, Guy, looking for a change moved to Wyoming where she accepted a full-time chaplain job in a psychiatric hospital. Guy, while in Wyoming, completed his Masters in Social Work in 2005 and began work at the State Hospital in the substance abuse treatment program. During this time the Connie pursued her Master’s in Theological Studies and with the support of St. Paul’s, the local parish, was ordained a Deacon in September 2005 and Priest in April 2006.

The Reverend Clark brings a strong foundation in Biblical scholarship, theology, and church history. She is warm, open-minded and compassionate and is comfortable providing pastoral care and counseling. She has an informal and conversational style of preaching which emphasizes Biblical themes, social issues, and guidance for everyday living.
